Company Profile – November
2010
Formed in 1995 Isuzu Truck
(UK) Ltd is the UK distributor of Isuzu Motors Japan Ltd, the world's
largest truck manufacturer of light to medium weight trucks. Including
the UK, Isuzu distributes to over 170 countries throughout the world and
is market leader in over 40 of them.
Isuzu Truck (UK) Ltd has its head office based in Hatfield,
Hertfordshire and currently directly employs 49 people. This is a new,
purpose-built, marketing and sales headquarters incorporating a highly
specified technical centre for dealer’s
technician training purposes.
Since Isuzu Truck (UK’s) launch into the UK it has grown from
strength to strength with a nationwide dealer network numbering almost
60. The current model range consists of 4x2 rigids
at 3.5t GVW - the ‘Grafter’ range – with the ‘Forward’ range at 5.0, 6.2,
7.5, 11, 12, 15 and 18 tonnes GVW.
Customer Care is the very foundation of Isuzu Truck (UK) Ltd and
by being the only UK truck manufacturer to communicate directly with
every single one of its customers (throughout the warranty period of each
truck) it has the advantage of being able to respond to their needs
immediately. Customers are even given the managing director’s personal
mobile and home telephone numbers giving them complete peace of mind and
total reassurance that there’s always someone else to turn to should they
ever need to. Customers soon find
out that they’re dealing directly with a committed organisation,
selling high quality, reliable products and offering first-class
service.
Isuzu also leads the way when it comes to warranty and roadside
assistance cover. No matter what model you buy, whether a 3.5 tonne ‘Grafter’ model or a ‘Forward’ 18 tonner,
across the entire range customers enjoy 3 years unlimited mileage
warranty, which is market-leading. What’s more Isuzu Truck operates a
24-hour breakdown and recovery service called Isuzu Commercial
Assistance. This provides customers with 24/7 comprehensive, nationwide
roadside assistance and recovery if necessary. Again unprecedented – this
service is absolutely free throughout the warranty period of the vehicle
– no other manufacturer comes even close to matching this level of cover.
The Isuzu fleet customer base includes such names as Coca-Cola, Menzies Distribution, Beattie Brothers, Argos, A-Plant,
Travis Perkins, Palmer and Harvey and are currently dealing with over 170
local authorities.
All UK destined Isuzu trucks are manufactured in Japan and
assembled by automotive specialists VN Automoveis
at Vendas Novas based
just outside of Lisbon, Portugal.
Full and flexible finance packages can be offered through Isuzu
Truck Finance and of course Isuzu also offers in-house controlled repair
and maintenance contracts. However for complete peace of mind contract
hire is also available – offering customers a comprehensive range of
purchasing and maintenance options.
By listening to their customers at regular customer clinics,
employing people that care about the business, appointing dealers that
care about the operators, Isuzu Truck has established itself as a leader
in customer care and can genuinely boast it is the UK’s first, truly
customer facing, truck manufacturer. In 2000 it won the Daily Telegraph/Energis Customer Care Awards and in March of 2008 won
the European Business Awards in the category of customer focus. For some
time now it has been recognised by the
Department for Trade and Industry as a benchmark company for excellence
in customer care and as a result it often host visits by other UK
companies (looking to share ‘best practice’ and customer relations
management ideas) at its headquarters in Hertfordshire.
This industry unique customer CARE
programme is the brainchild of managing
director Nikki King OBE. Nikki
is a past chairman but still an active member of the Commercial Vehicle
Show committee. She was awarded the O.B.E for services to the road
transport industry in 2002 and received a doctorate in 2010.
CARE - Customer facing, Always listening, Reliable and trustworthy, Efficient and friendly.

One
of the most popular chassis used as the prime mover for Recovery Vehicles
are the Isuzu Forward range
One of the main reasons for its popularity is not only the 3 year unlimited
mileage warranty but also its amazing payload both on transporters, wheel
lifts and twin deck car transporters.

5.0
tonne – lightweight and roomy
With the same spacious and well equipped cab as the 6.2 and 7.5 tonners,
the 5 tonner boasts the driveline of the smaller 3.5 tonne Grafter, with a
150bhp turbocharged and intercooled 4-cylinder diesel engine and 5-speed
fully synchromesh gearbox. When combined with its light but proven chassis,
this truck is ideal for operators who require more load flexibility than a
3.5 tonner.
6.2
tonne – a great all-rounder
From car transporters and recovery vehicles to home delivery and tippers,
the 6.2 tonne is ideal for operators requiring a good all-rounder. Its
innovative low cab forward control design ensures maximum load capacity and
excellent manoeuvrability. Capable of legally towing up to 3.5 tonnes*, it
comes in two standard wheelbases, plus the option of a crew cab. Its
car-like controls, with a choice of manual or ‘Easyshift’,
6-speed gearboxes, ensures simple and straightforward everyday driving.

7.5 tonne –
choice and comfort
The 7.5 tonner is equally at home in both rural and urban environments as
its slim cab and folding side mirrors provide safe passage through tight
spots and cramped loading areas. An ergonomic cab design, car-like
controls, excellent visibility and tight turning circle also guarantee a
comfortable driver experience. The 7.5 tonner is available with the choice
of three standard wheelbases, ‘Easyshift’ or manual
gearbox, as well as day cab and crew cab options.
Priding itself
on its excellent payload, manoeuvrability, accessibility, reliability,
performance and drivability – it’s no wonder our 7.5 tonner is so popular
with many operators, from small retail businesses to large fleets.
11 tonne – local distribution
This economical product is compact, with class-leading payload and
excellent manoeuvrability. Physically this vehicle is not much larger than
the 7.5 tonner but it can carry 3 tonnes more, giving a body/payload
potential of almost 8 tonnes on the shortest wheelbase. This makes it an
ideal local distribution vehicle, suitable for boxes, curtainsiders,
tippers, flat/dropsides, recovery, plant
carrying, refrigerated, livestock, tanks, waste and recycling.
Its
roomy day cab is just slightly wider than the 7.5 tonne cab yet still
offers excellent accessibility. The truck uses a 4 cylinder engine with the
power output increased to 210bhp and a 6-speed manual gearbox or a 6-speed Easyshift gearbox. Excellent torque characteristics
means less gear changing and greater fuel efficiency, leading to greater
productivity and a relaxed driving experience.
12
tonne – local and longer distance distribution
These are
the new access steps and seats as requested by our Recovery Operator
customers on the Forward 12 tonner as an optional extra.

This 12 tonne truck has the option of a crew cab, making it ideal for local
distribution, such as recovery vehicles or municipal driving. If you are
also after greater carrying capacity for longer, more arduous, distance
driving, then the vehicle’s 8 tonne body/ payload potential (on the
shortest wheelbase), horsepower of 240bhp and 6-speed manual gearbox makes
it the ideal choice.

First two 12t
Isuzu crew cabs go to Automania
The
first two production 12t Isuzu Forward crewcab
trucks have recently joined the 28 strong fleet at West London recovery
company Automania Group Ltd, operating in the
Heathrow and Slough areas.
Fitted
with tilt and slide bodies manufactured by Worldwide Recovery Systems, the
12t F120.240 4x2 rigids join the Heathrow fleet
where 28 out of the 42 recovery vehicles operated are based on the Isuzu
marque.
“As
longstanding operators of Isuzu trucks, we have complete faith in the
product. Solid and robust, the vehicles are ideally suited to the intensive
recovery operations in this part of London. For the type of recovery
contracts we have recently gained, we need two new heavier weight crewcab vehicles and we had no hesitation in specifying
the new Isuzu Forward 12 tonners,” said Richard Goddard, Managing Director
at Automania Group Ltd.
With
a working life of up to 5 years, customer support from their vehicle
supplier is another factor that is so important to Automania.
This is, in the opinion of Richard Goddard, where Isuzu scores highly on a
consistent basis.
“The
customer care we receive from Isuzu is second to none in this industry. In
the rare event of a problem, we can rely on Isuzu 24/7, which is what we
have come to expect from them through experience,” comments Richard
Goddard.
“These
are the first two Isuzu crew cab Forward models in the UK at 12 tonnes, and
it is fitting that such a loyal customer as Automania
has taken delivery of them. The recovery industry is a key market sector
for Isuzu and we believe that our current product offering leads the market
in terms of overall performance, reliability and customer support,” said Keith Child, Marketing Director at Isuzu
Truck (UK) Limited.
